Egg and dart pattern, a repeating pattern of Greek origin

Ancient Motifs Used in Temple Architecture

The capitals of ancient Roman temples feature a pattern called egg-and-dart, with eggs and arrowheads arranged alternately.

One of the essential decorations in ancient Greek and Roman temple architecture, many people have likely seen the motif itself even if they do not know its name.

From the basic design, combinations with other motifs such as eggs and tongues, and the addition of plant leaf motifs in the spaces between the eggs have been born over time, and this motif has been long loved.

It also came to be used in furnishings and interior decoration

The motif loved since ancient times was revived by Neoclassicism, which emerged as a reaction against the Renaissance, and began to be incorporated into interior decorations such as furnishings.
